Sweet Cheeks | Twin Cities Baby Photography

by: Tera Girardin on

No words needed! I LOVE 6 month olds!   What age is best to photograph your baby? I generally recommend that first year you bring a baby to a professional at newborn, 6 month and 1 year. Why do I not recommend more often?  First, I'm pretty sure you have a camera or two and I'm pretty sure you are photographing that sweet baby of yours nearly every single day! So it's not as critical to document each and every month since you are already doing that. I do think it's best to use a professional at major milestones. This can be at exact ages (6, 12, 18 months...) or even at developmental milestones if you want to be less precise (sitting, crawling, standing, walking -- and even later when they are missing their front teeth, getting braces on or off, or yikes! learning to drive!). It's a perfect time to schedule your baby's portrait. I have openings for February if you are ready to schedule a studio session! Contact me at tera@teraphotography.com

Behind the Scenes | Tween Photo Shoot

by: Tera Girardin on

I had so much fun at last Friday's photo shoot. It was a model session for a new age group that I want to do more of. Those middle school years -- the years in beTWEEN childhood and the young adult. Some might say awkward and goofy but I say they are a time for amazing transformation. A time worthy to document and I don't think they are photographed enough! So I enlisted some awesome models and had them trek out to meet me in the middle of corn field country. We braved the pesky gnats and had a blast. My own soon-to-be-middleschooler son was my assistant and in charge of some behind the scenes video. And to my surprise he was even skilled enough to switch back and forth and take some still photos too. I had him shooting in black and white even. Turned out really fun! I can't share the real images with you -- that's for a special REVEAL PARTY on July 11 at my studio. But here's a few sneak peek behind the scenes including  a selfie of the cameraman. :)  Enjoy! Little Runaway | Hastings Family Photographer

by: Tera Girardin on

There is always one in the bunch! The one that has to escape the family photo. Or who has JUST. HAD. ENOUGH. On the verge of a tantrum over family photos. But when you are a toddler then it's sorta cute and you can get away with it. I sort of "get" toddlers so instead of getting into a power struggle, we let this little guy run! He loved it! And everyone had fun this way. This extended family session was for a sort of an extended family of my own. You see it's for my best friend from high school's entire family. So this is a family I grew up with and spent many a sleepovers at their home. So it was pretty fun to hang out with them and create some beautiful memories and portraits for them. And it took place in my new favorite secret location in the south metro. I can't wait to do more sessions there soon! IMG_9132 5x7 burst WEBIMG_9136 5x7 BURST WEBEnjoy!

Playtime | Children's Photographer

by: Tera Girardin on

Took a little time to play with my niece and nephew at the Burnsville Performing Arts Center this morning. What I love about photographing them, besides they are so dang cute, my sister usually dresses them in whatever they choose or what fits their personalities for the moment. Which makes for happy kids and a slice of life photography. Wait 'til you see my nephew - neon green sports outfit! Love it. My niece wanted to wear one of my pettiskirts so she can twirl and bounce and generally do what she does best - be a little sprite who dances her way through life. Besides playing around outside I also decided to play around in Photoshop a bit too. Just being creative with some new recipes and styles. It's good to stretch and not do things the same way each time. I like consistency in my portraits but I also like tweaking and making each session a little bit better and unique to itself. I'm digging this creamy, light and airy feel while retaining lots of the bright colors. I'd love to hear some feedback on this style! I have more to post soon but wanted to share my "playtime" today.   IMG_8674 edit 5x7 WEBIMG_8690 WEB

Love… autism style | Twin Cities Child Photographer

by: Tera Girardin on

This is a little sneak peek for a family I had in the studio recently. This little boy has two brothers also - he's the meat in the brother sandwich! And I worked hard to get them all together.  But for this peek, I wanted to focus on the very special relationship he has with his parents. What you can't tell from these photos is this little boy in non-verbal. Which means he can't communicate in the way most of us do - with words or sounds. It is a hard situation when the person you are caring for doesn't talk. Frustrating at times for everyone! But what these photos do show is he has tremendous love for his parents. And vice versa.  That speaks loud and clear in these images.  And that my friend, is love, autism style! What kid doesn't want their dad to swing them in the air over and over and over again? He had no trouble "asking" to do this again and again. And again. Joy! Delight! Love. Spring Fever | Burnsville Children's Photographer

by: Tera Girardin on

Sigh…as I sit editing photos in my home office today, I glance out the window to give my eyes a break and boooooo! It's snowing. Again. And although I can appreciate how the fluffy white stuff looks so peaceful and coats everything with a dusting like powdered sugar… I've had enough. Spring? Where are you?! Save me! Soon enough I suppose. But it's always spring in my studio! :) This little girl is so much fun. I loved teasing her and playing around with new backdrops and balloons and just enjoying her spirit. She remembered that I photographed her when she was 7. That was two years ago. :) Cute. I'm done looking out the window. And focusing on spring instead. Smiley Guy | Baby Photographer Minneapolis

by: Tera Girardin on

It was great to get back into the studio yesterday. I admit to enjoying a break from the camera once in a while but too long and I get antsy. A creative itch that has to be scratched. So it was great to get back into the swing of things with this little cutie pie. Such a charming little boy already. My favorite part…the cooing he did back at me when I was talking to him. LOVE that! Such a sweet sound. IMG_0380 5x7 bw WEB   IMG_0250 5x7 bw WEB Enjoy! - Tera
